Our guides are designed to make estimates inspectable rather than presenting a single number as universal truth.

Sources and dates

We prefer public sources from regulators, government departments, safety bodies, utilities, and established consumer or financial guidance organisations. Each guide lists its sources and the date we accessed them. Rules, rates, and supplier terms can change, so check the current source before acting.

Assumptions and calculations

Where a guide uses an estimate, it identifies the household scenario, units, time period, and assumptions behind it. Calculations are intended to be reproducible with the information shown. Actual costs can vary with location, property condition, usage, tariffs, eligibility, and provider.

Updates and corrections

We review guides when important source information changes or a material error is reported. An updated guide identifies its update date. If you spot an error or a source that has changed, please use the contact and corrections page.
